Do you listen to music while you are training? I do, sometimes. Sometimes I just like to sort out what’s going on in my head, particularly if I’m walking. Running, I need the distraction so I get some tunes going!
Really when it comes down to it, listening to music while you exercise is rather enjoyable. Here are some more reasons why you should listen to music while working out …
1. It makes you feel good! Let’s face it, music that is fast and upbeat usually gets the blood pumping and makes you want to move!
2. It can distract you from the task at hand .. not in a bad way though. It can distract you from pain while exercising. Not bad pain of course, because if you ever feel bad pain where you have to stop exercising, then take the hint .. stop! I mean pain as in, this is really hard and I have to push myself a bit further. ( Or until I get home because it’s still 5km away ) You may also be less aware of your exertion levels ( how hard you are working ). For example, you get back from your run and check out your times .. “Oh, I didn’t know I was going that fast!” ( OK, so I haven’t said that very often, but you get the idea )
3. You may even work harder … see above comment about being distracted. You want your workout to challenge you right or you wouldn’t have done it!
4. Music can keep you in the zone … it can keep you focussed on what you are doing by eliminating other distractions oh wow look at that pretty bird …
5. Music may help you maintain the pace that you are wanting to workout at. Think, running / walking at a certain pace as the tempo of the music increases or pushing out those extra reps on the gym floor ( or at home if this is you! )
Speaking of listening to music while you are working out … I’m looking to update my playlist with some new tunes.
