Do you have a workout partner .. or do you prefer to do the solo thing?

Sometimes training with a friend / partner / group can provide you with that much needed kick in the backside motivation.  I admit that generally I prefer to train alone, I’m the one with the headphones in getting on with business and getting that workout over and done with.  But, there are some times when I don’t mind having someone share my pain … it’s usually when I’m lacking a bit of motivation.  I look for a training partner to get me moving again.

Here’s a couple of other reasons why you might choose to enlist a training partner …

It’s fun … someone to share that story when you tripped over the crack in the footpath .. oh, that wasn’t funny?  Sorry …

Motivation … your training partner more than likely will have similar goals to yours.  Best support person ever! And just try keeping up with that chick on the bike next to you in RPM class for a little extra motivation! ( Not that I recommend this, you should always run your own race, ride your own bike … but you get what I mean )

Inspiration … you will inspire each other.  You might even look up to a training partner, they may inspire you to push just that little bit harder, challenge you! Or, your training partner may be inspired by you! Go you!

Accountability … what better way to crawl out of bed when it’s early and dark than knowing your training partner is doing the same thing and you don’t want to let them down .. or you would never live it down!

Holes in the back yard … my running training partner doesn’t speak to me to get me out the door as such, but if he hasn’t run for a week there’s sometimes a hole dug in the back yard to remind me that he needs to run! I am of course referring to my border collie … not any human training partner …
